Nail Knot & Line Clipper Tool
If you fly fish you will need to tie nail knots to attach fly line to backing and leaders to your fly line. The nail knot provides a low profile knot that will easily run through the guides of your fly rod without getting hung up when it's done right.
Same holds true for the attachment of leaders to fly line. Yes, we've used the "Chinese Finger" loops as well as the welded loops that come with some fly lines. The former have a nasty habit of slipping off when you have a good fish on, the later are bulky and can affect how your leader turns over. And of course, this in turn determines how your fly will land on the water.
There's a million nail knot tools out on the market, some more, some less. Some are rather large and weighty. Most simply don't work and is the reason why many folks shy away from one of the best knots used in fly fishing.
While they all claim to be easy to use they either are designed wrong, too long or too short, and some of them have the wrong bend angles and taper to ever really work right. Steer clear of the ones with the very narrow chutes as well as the ones that really do look like nails. Why? Just imagine the "fun" you'll have early and late in the day when the light is getting low and you try to thread your line through that tiny lane.
After using these on the streams for over a year we decided to add them to our stock and share the joy. The nippers are razor sharp and cut knot tags clean and close, another problem that can surface if the knot is not done properly.
If you buy a $3 tool that's what you'll get. If you buy the highest price one it won't work as well. This will be the best $10 you ever spent, guaranteed!
